State Capture and Beyond Project - Call for Proposals

Opportunity: Support for community-based organisations to mobilise for enhanced accountability to combat corruption and mismanagement in local municipalities.

The Human Rights Media Trust, in support of the State Capture and Beyond project objective of empowering community-based groups, is inviting community-based organisations (or NGOs that directly service CBOs) to apply for financial support for campaigns around lack of accountability, corruption and/or neglect and mismanagement at municipal or provincial level.  

This call applies to existing projects or new projects that are ready to start in the following provinces: GP, KZN, NW, MP, LP, WC and EC.

The support will provide funding for organisations running awareness campaigns, community events, developing educational materials, and conducting outreach initiatives. This may involve workshops on community organising, advocacy strategies, social media engagement, and other relevant areas. 

To qualify you must be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a commitment to enhancing accountability through grassroots initiatives. 
  2. Have a proven track record of being able to account for expenditure in the form of:
  • Proof of registration with CIPC as a non-profit company (NPC)
  • Bank account confirmation
  • Tax clearance pin from SARS (PAYE registration will be required if salaries are paid)
  • Have a bookkeeper line item in the budget.

 

Preference will be given to projects that focus on any of the following issues:

  • Water Service Delivery
  • Disaster Management
  • Housing and Land redistribution
  • Health
  • Public Procurement

Project start date: May 2025 

Project period: 6 to 12 months

Grant amount: R200 000 – R235 000
